MPAD supports National Guard efforts after "Irene"
Clay National Guard Center, Marietta, Ga., Aug. 27, 2011 – Ten Soldiers from Marietta’s 124th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment mobilized today to support National Guard relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Irene.
“We’re mobilizing two teams of journalists to support an aviation task force that will operate out of Richmond, Virginia,” said Maj. John H. Alderman IV, the unit Commander. “In addition to capturing images and video of Guard relief efforts, our 124th MPAD Soldiers will facilitate media coverage of the relief efforts.”
The teams, each made up of three or four Soldiers, will be operating in support of the 2-151st Security and Support Helicopter Battalion of the South Carolina Army National Guard. As Army public affairs specialists, they are trained to conduct broadcast and print journalism in a field environment.
“We have a long drive to get in place to support the recovery efforts,” said Staff Sgt. Harold Lewis, Jr., a team leader with the unit. “But we’ll be glad to help tell the story of the great work the Guard does during relief efforts.”
