Clay National Guard Center, September 15, 2010 – Ninety-six members of Swainsboro’s 810th Engineer Company (SAPPER) of the Georgia Army National Guard are scheduled to return to Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 5:55 p.m. following a year’s deployment to Afghanistan.
While deployed to Afghanistan, the 810th combat engineers had the responsibility of locating, identifying and removing embedded improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and insuring route clearance.
Upon arrival at Hunter Army Airfield, the Soldiers will be taken to Fort Stewart where they will be reunited with their families and begin a three-day Yellow Ribbon program of reintegration.
