The families of two 48th Brigade Soldiers who recently returned from Afghanistan will be the focus of a WSB-TV feature story scheduled for airing on Channel 2’s “Salute to America” 4th of July broadcast.
The families of SPC Kevin Mize, Troop B, 108th Cavalry and SPC Nicholas Hoovers, Troop A, 108th Cavalry allowed cameras and a reporter to accompany them during a day to record the families’ holiday activities.
According to WSB-TV producer Dorthey Daniel, “We wanted to show some of the holiday activities that were missed last year when these Soldiers were deployed to Afghanistan. Both Soldiers returned from deployment in late February.
Since WSB-TV began its “Salute to America” celebration more than a decade ago, the Georgia National Guard has always had a part in the celebration. With the cancellation of the “Salute to America” parade--at one time the largest Independence Day Parade in the nation-- WSB-TV created a special “Salute to America” broadcast with patriotic programs, national celebrities, and one of the largest fireworks displays in the Southeast.
Check local ABC listings for times for this special broadcast on July 4th.
