48TH BRIGADE COMMANDER RETURNS HOME
Commander and Brigade Leadership Follow 48th home to Georgia
Colonel Lee Durham, Commander, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, is scheduled to return home from Afghanistan on Wednesday, April 7th at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah. Colonel Durham commanded the 3,200 citizen-soldiers deployed to Afghanistan for the unit’s yearlong deployment. Accompanying Durham will be Command Sergeant Major Michael Hurndon, the senior enlisted officer for the Brigade, and other members of the Brigade’s command element.
More than 2,500 Soldiers of the Macon-based unit have returned home from Afghanistan with more than 1,500 having completed the weeklong reintegration process.
The mission of the 48th IBCT while in Afghanistan was to organize and train the Afghan security forces, police and border officers.
Once Durham and the 48th command element returns, they will board buses to Fort Stewart where a short welcome home ceremony is planned prior to being released to their families.
